Louise Berning
Louise grew up in Scott City. She spent most of her life there, except for four years living in Texas while attending college at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, where she received a degree in economics. As the 4th generation in the family farm, she has a rich heritage that dates back to 1886, when her great grandfather, Fred Mahler, settled in Scott County as a homesteader and began farming some of the land they have today. Among her primary responsibilities are being a mother, grandmother, landowner, and a sounding board for all of the team’s many ideas.
Seeing the crop production from start to finish is her favorite activity on the farm. She believes in educating others by sharing farming practices. As a lifelong learner, Louise enjoys reading, listening to music, attending estate sales, and collecting both art and books. She admires her parents, Paul and Leona Numrich, for enduring the Great Depression and shaping the way she lives today. She is a good listener and enjoys being a cheerleader for all the members of the Berning Farms team.
Favorite quote: “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” Woodrow Wilson
