Charlie Apperson
Charlie was born and raised in the town of Edna in southeast Kansas. He eventually moved out to Scott City around 1988 and then to Eldorado around 1997. His career took him back out to Scott City in August of 2013 where he started working for Berning Farms. Besides truck and trailer maintenance, Charlie manages the local seed wheat cleaning plant, operates a spray rig, and performs fabrication work as needed. Berning Farms benefits from his background in trucking, dispatching, and general maintenance activities, which he leverages to benefit the farm. Â
While he enjoys working on the farm, the activities there don’t necessarily rise to the level of his favorite. Maintenance activities on the farm are where he feels his unique skills are put to the best use and he enjoys the mechanical challenges his job presents on a day-to-day basis. He is the father of Dani, Tanner, and the proud grandfather of Taos (Tanner’s son). In his own words, he describes himself as cranky, short tempered, and willing to do almost anything to accomplish the task at hand. It is his hopes to one day travel across the United States, including visiting the Smithsonian’s in Washington DC, and ultimately making his way over to Europe where he can tour all of the old architecture (buildings, churches, etc.). It is Charlie’s nature to work hard, try his hardest to care for his family, and he enjoys spending any free time he has with them.
