Nick Berning
Partner
Nick was born and raised in Scott City, Kansas, and attended Scott Community High School. Following his football career at Hutchinson Community College, he went on to attend Pittsburg State University. He has worked at Berning farms for over 18 years and is one of the partners. He is primarily responsible for planting corn and sorghum, drilling wheat, managing and disseminating operation information, and helping with other various responsibilities on the farm.
He is fascinated by the evolution of technology and its integration into farming operations. From the “see and spray” functionality in spray rigs to the precise seed population in corn planters, Nick enjoys it all. Thus, he is committed to pushing the boundaries of technology as a way increase the yields of the farm. He thrives on social aspects of the operation, such as bringing people together and building relationships.
Nick’s work schedule provides flexibility which allows him to follow his daughter Skylar to various sporting events – which is very meaningful to him. Although watching his daughter’s sports is his favorite, he also enjoys a variety of sports. Especially traveling/attending various Southwest Conference football games, colleges, and campuses. As a person who emphasizes organization and punctuality, Nick describes himself as confident, considerate, and reliable. Among his pet peeves are messes, overflowing trash cans, and grease guns with empty cartridges. He would like to leave a legacy of trustworthiness, honesty, and respect for those he meets.
