Terry Berning
Partner
Terry grew up in Marienthal and has lived in the Scott City area most of his life. He established Berning Farms in 1992 and before that worked on another local farm for 21 years. He also spent time in Texas working for a dairy farm and an assembly line where he assembled regulators for hospitals and cutting torches. Terry focuses his day-to-day efforts on keeping everyone happy and making sure they have what they need to be successful. He also leads the efforts on the irrigation aspects of the farm whether it be laying pipe or walking the sprinklers and the procurement of the heavy machinery that supports the operation.
Shop and mechanical work are where Terry feels the most comfortable and leverages his talents. His favorite activity on the farm is tending to his small herd of cows. When he shows up on his four-wheeler, the herd comes running in anticipation of being fed. Terry enjoys collecting antiques and has a unique John Deere tractor collection (including a 7520 four wheel drive). He used to target restoring about one tractor a year over the winter but admits now it’s cheaper to buy the already restored tractors.
The Rocky Mountains in Colorado is one of Terry’s favorite places to travel. Although, he admits, his favorite past time is still working and providing value back to the farm. Terry had a goal early in life of farming 50 quarters of ground by time he turned 50 – he only lacked one quarter on this 50th birthday. His ultimate goal in life is being remembered as someone that can be trusted and wants to do the best job possible for all of his landlords.
